City of Northfield inspecting Northfield Estates apartments after confirming complaints
Jan 29, 2017
The city of Northfield issued a press release Friday announcing that it has started inspections on the Northfield Estates apartment complex after confirming complaints of violations related to health, safety and property maintenance standards.
“Based on information from more recent inspections and possible health and safety concerns, these violations have risen to a level where additional action is required,” the release said.
The city plans to increase its capacity to complete a unit-by-unit inspection of all rental units, common areas and exterior conditions at the property, the release said. The owner is complying with a schedule set up by the city, according to the city.
The city will notify residents of the process and obtain consent in order to legally enter apartments.
After the inspections, the city will plan the appropriate corrective actions as necessary, the release added.
The city is encouraging any residents of Northfield Estates to contact the Northfield Building Inspection Division at 507-645-3004 to make a report or complaint concerning substandard conditions. Immediate action related to health and safety may be available and pursued as needed by staff.
Any personal information such as name, address and unit number will be confidential with the city and not made available to the public, including the building owners and management.
The city does not solicit immigration information or inquire about immigration status of any person related to the inspection of rental housing complaints, the release said.
